Where Is Your Website?

Content is King!

You have a website, but you are despairing because almost no one visits it. You have checked your rankings in the top search engines and you definitely are not up there. What to do?

Search Engine Optimization, or SEO as it’s known, is the art of getting a website listed at or near the top of the search engines for particular key words, and making it visible on web indexes. A web index lists websites under various categories, just like Jayde.com. An index also includes a search function so that you can find websites listed in the Index.

SEO is a complex and difficult art. It has evolved over the years and today a good SEO specialist must be a master of a wide variety of disciplines. He should evaluate your website carefully first and make suggestions to make it more search engine friendly. This can involve various things, but the most important of all is to have good content!

If your website has nothing interesting to say any visitors that come your way are not going to stay. You wouldn’t stay around a boring person with nothing to say at a party would you? Same thing on your website.

You can find good content almost anywhere, but the best way to make your website is to include articles about your product and service. Show that you are passionate. Write it yourself if you can, or hire a professional to do it for you — as long as you have articles on your website that will grab the visitor’s attention and make them want to stay to read what you say and do.

Once you have some interesting content your SEO specialist should set up the META tags; ‘hidden’ code at the top of each web page that includes a TITLE, DESCRIPTION and a list of KEYWORDS. Include the ‘key words’; the most important words people are likely to use to find your product or service. When you write your article make sure you include these key words in the first 500 words of your text as often as possible while still making your article readable. It must read naturally, so don’t ‘forcefeed’ your key words.

Your webmaster/seo specialist should also set up any additional files, such as a Sitemap, to help the search engines find relevant content. You can see an example here: http://aceswebs.com/sitemap.xml

SEO is not something you do once and then forget it. Millions of websites are competing with yours for that coveted spot in the Top 10 search engine results. It takes time and hard work to get a website listed up there. If your website appears within the first 10 results it has a much better chance of attracting visitors. If you see what you want listed in the top 10 you don’t bother drilling down any further. So if your website is in that crucial first page of results you will get results.

SEO is very much like advertising. Once you start to advertise you have to keep on doing it. Even Coca Cola knows this. Everyone knows that familiar Coca Cola brand, so why do they keep on advertising? Because if they didn’t keep on reminding you they would lose market share. It’s the same thing with your website. You need to be right in front of everyone’s eyes all the time.

TIME FOR SOME HUMOR

A crow was sitting on a tree doing nothing all day.

A rabbit asked him, “Can I also sit like you and do nothing all day long?”

The crow answered: “Sure, why not.”

So, the rabbit sat on the ground below the crow, and rested.

A fox jumped on the rabbit and ate it.

Moral of the story: To be sitting and doing nothing, you must be sitting very high up.

That’s all for now

Until next time!
