What use is your website?
Have you tried Firefox web browser yet? If not, you are really missing out on an exciting browser experience. It has so many new features. For a start, it is very fast loading because the version you download and install (I’ll tell you how in a moment) is just the basic browser and the file size is very small.
You can add new ‘skins’, called ‘Themes’ to give it a unique look. And you can download special extensions to do all sorts of things. For example, I have installed FireFTP so that I can upload and download files from within my browser to my hosting server. You may not want to do that, but there are literally hundreds of great extensions to choose from.
But let’s get started by downloading and installing Firefox.
- Go to http://www.firefox.com/ and click on the Download link and wait. The installation will begin after you have downloaded the program.
- Follow the instructions on the screen. It’s very easy and in just a couple of minutes the Firefox browser will start up. You can type in the address of a website to visit, and then watch how fast it loads!
EXTENSIONS & THEMES
Firefox is fast because it only loads the basic program. However, you can add on any extensions you like. It’s easy and there are literally hundreds of extensions you can add to do specific jobs. For example, I always include Download Manager Tweak, because it allows me to control my file downloads.
To install an extension click on the Tools menu link at the top of the screen, and then click on Add-ons in the drop down menu. Select Extensions or Themes at the top of the window, and then click on ‘Get Themes’ or ‘Get Extensions’. A new Tab will open and you can start browsing through the many choices. You have probably already used Tabs in IE, but the tabs in FireFox are much easier to use. You can even download extensions to control how your Tabs work and what color they display in.
If you Google ‘geek tips’ you can select from a variety of websites that will show you how to get the most out of your Firefox browser.

Some of our clients have been with us since we began, and the many others who have since hired us continue to use our service. We keep up with the latest techniques and help ensure your website is easy to find on all the top 30 search engines. In the next newsletter I’ll be telling you a few of our secrets. Not all of them, of course! But enough so that you will understand how search engines decide which websites to give premium positions to in the Search Engine Results pages after you enter a search.
ONLINE BUSINESS APPLICATIONS
Have you heard of a ‘Business Application’ and wondered what it is?
No…it’s not a new job application form.
In the computer world, a business application is a program written to help you run your business online or offline. So, for example, a shopping cart in your website is a business application. A program that helps you manage your sales team, or just about any other business activity you can think of that can be done online is also a business application.
Some business applications require a database to work. The database stores all the information you use; for example, all the products in your shopping cart.
However, you don’t have to worry about the database. As long as your programmer knows what a database is and how to write a program to control it, you can sit back and relax while the programmer does all the hard work.
Small businesses will rarely need an online business application, but large companies often have specific requirements to help them run their business, both online and offline.
